Baoule bas-relief

This molding is the reproduction of a wooden bas-relief dating from the nineteenth century, from Côte d'Ivoire.

The ancient Baule dwellings, of rectangular plan and covered with a roof of thick layers of thatch, were often provided with doors and shutters carved and painted with colors with natural pigments, among which dominated the white clay and several varieties of ochres.

This bas-relief repeats an ancestor or lineage master mask.
