Wooden Jigsaw Puzzle Tissot "Circle of the rue Royale"

The Circle of the Rue Royale, founded in 1852, was an unique aristocratic male cub in Paris. It was composed of a group of friends brought together by their sympathy for the monarchy a Proustian reference in the parisian landscape.

In 1868, the Circle commissioned James Tissot, an emerging portraitist, to paint this imposing group portrait, which was hung in one of the rooms in the club, each of the twelve members paid 1000 francs to the artist. When the club was dissolved, the painting was presented to Baron Hottinguer as determined by lot.
