Da Vinci Vitruvian Man Tote bag

This tote bag published for the "Leonardo da Vinci" exhibition at the Louvre Museum from 24 October 2019 to 24 February 2020 is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's famous annotated drawing, an architectural treatise written by Vitruvian, a Roman architect, around 15 BC. Vitruvian developed a system of remarkable proportions, measurable at the level of the human body, which must be applied to the constructions of builders and architects; Leonardo da Vinci transposed it into a drawing, representing the ideal proportions of the human body.

This perfect body is represented in two superposed positions; it is at the same time inscribed in a circle, with the navel as the centre, and a square, geometric shapes considered perfect in the 15th century. Man is here both the centre of the universe, and the ideal system for rationalizing and measuring the world.
