Samothrace Wing Brooch

The Louvre's Wings Collection

Very early in Greece, the Victory was represented as a winged goddess. Built on the island of Samothrace at the beginning of the 2nd century BC, this statue was discovered in 1863, and sent to the Louvre. The deployment of its wings aft indicates that Victory has just landed on the bow of a warship, probably to celebrate a naval victory.

Marie Christine Dorner, a graduate of the Camondo School in Paris, was awarded the Grand Prix du Design de la ville de Paris in 1995 and the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2012. Interior designer, designer, scenographer, she represents a multicultural "French touch", a perfectionist gesture that combines traditional know-how and high technology... She has appropriated the wings of Victory, as well as that of Eros asleep, to create a set of gifts and light and elegant jewellery.
