The notebooks of the National Museum of the Renaissance

Emblematic production of the workshops of the Rhine, Saxony and Bavaria, German sandstone was a real success in Europe from the Renaissance to the 18th century, particularly in Holland and England. Everyday objects, present at the table of the elite as well as the most humble and prized for their solidity, they were also sought after for their decoration with a political or moralizing tone, inspired by scholarly iconographic models that circulated at the time in the form of engravings, books or booklets.

This work is the first French publication on the subject in over forty years and proposes to give the collection of the Musée National de la Renaissance, which includes nearly ninety pieces, its rightful place in the decorative arts of the modern era.
