Women painters, 1780 - 1830 The birth of a battle - Journal of the exhibition

FRENCH LANGUAGE

1780-1830. So what story is told between these two time limits? The birth of a battle. That of the female painters. Some of them are well known: Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, Adélaïde Labille-Guiard, Marie-Guillemine Benoist, Marguerite Gérard... But apart from these few rare figures, the majority of these painters are little known or even unknown to the general public.
This journal wishes to restore them to a place in our artistic memory: indeed, many of them enjoyed a success and a public and institutional recognition that contradicts the invisibility and minority that the history of art struck them until recently.
