Bust of General Bonaparte

This old bronze is one of the busts of Bonaparte produced by the Sèvres manufactory.

Boizot, then the chief artist at the manufactory, delivered the plaster model of the bust early in 1798. Although the artist had certainly never seen Bonaparte, contemporary testimonies certify that the statue was a good likeness: the long hair and
emaciated face are those of the young conqueror on his return from the first Italian campaign in December 1797. He is wearing the uniform of a general of the Republic, embroidered with oak leaves and acorns.

The bust of Bonaparte in his consul's uniform, executed by Boizot for the Sèvres manufactory in 1800, is slightly different.
