 Torque from Guines

Torque from Guines

This rigid necklace is decorated with fine engraving made with the help of dies and small chasers. No other similar ornamentation is known. It was part of a deposit discovered by chance on the edge of a vast marshland. During the Bronze Age "treasures", probably intended for divinities that have not been identified so far, were buried on land or in rivers.

This gold deposit, which was buried around 1200-1100 BC, was composed of a bracelet, three torques, including this one, and a gold "belt" weighing 2500 g, the use of which remains an enigma.
