"Serrurier" Pendant with chain

Gustave Serrurier-Bovy was an architect and interior designer from Liège, often regarded as one of the leading Belgian representatives of Art Nouveau.

Initially an architect, an advocate of "art for everyone", he began to manufacture furniture at the end of the 1880s, influenced by the British Arts and Crafts Movement, with which he shared the same predilection for the simplicity and beauty of interior decorations, and the utility and accessibility of objects produced.

Forward-thinking and strongly influenced by Art Nouveau, Gustave Serrurier-Bovy continued to develop an original architectural and ornamental style, pioneering in terms of design.

This silver-gilt pendant is a beautiful example: the wavy lines and natural shapes characteristic of Art Nouveau are simplified, are made more geometric; only the swinging of the pearls introduces a curve into the collection of straight lines.
