da Vinci Earrings - Vitruvian Man
The design of these earrings is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's famous annotated drawing, an architectural treatise written by Vitruvius, a Roman architect, around 15 BC. Vitruvius developed a system of remarkable proportions, measurable at the level of the human body, which must be applied to the constructions of builders and architects; Leonardo da Vinci transposed it into a drawing, representing the ideal proportions of the human body.
This perfect body is represented in two superposed positions; it is at the same time inscribed in a circle, with the navel as the centre, and a square, geometric shapes considered perfect in the 15th century. Man is here both the centre of the universe, and the ideal system for rationalizing and measuring the world.
